GEORGE LOPEZ: GEORGE GETS A PAIN IN THE ASH / YOU DROPPED A MOM ON ME {FIFTH SEASON PREMIERE} (TV)

Summary

The fifth season premiere in this comedy series, set in Los Angeles, in which comedian George Lopez plays family man "George Lopez." In this two-part episode, in the wake of Carmen's shocking announcement, George flashes back to the not-so-peaceful moment of her birth. Carmen then admits that she is not actually pregnant, though she is willing to become so in order to marry Jason in Georgia, and her parents desperately try to convince her that becoming a teenage wife and mother will ruin her future. George tries to think of a way out of the situation, though Vic points out that Jason at least has a promising future, unlike George when he married Angie. Everyone is then stunned to learn that Benny's house has caught fire, and George is heartbroken when his mother seemingly perishes in the blaze, though she turns up alive and well shortly thereafter, having spent the night at a bar. Benny realizes that she likely caused the fire with her cigarette, while elsewhere Carmen startles a sleeping Jason and excitedly tell him of her plan to have a baby with him right away.

In the morning, George and Angie try to compromise with Carmen by promising to throw her a wedding right after her high-school graduation, though they then find that Jason, feeling overwhelmed by the speedy relationship, has fled in the night. Carmen, however, seems oblivious to the breakup, sure that their love is still strong. Benny admits that she had no insurance and kept all of her money in the house, meaning that she is now broke and homeless, and Angie persuades a very reluctant George to allow her to move in temporarily. The family struggles to adjust to Benny's unpleasant domestic routines as Ernie attempts to collect money for her, though quickly finds that she is "not well-liked" in the neighborhood, and George begins to panic that he will have to live with his mother forever. Jason returns Carmen's belongings, though she still refuses to accept that the relationship is over, and George tries to arrange for Benny to find an apartment of her own, though Vic hastily objects to having her in the same building. Upon learning that Benny has foolishly gambled away her advanced paycheck, George gives her money for rent and kicks her out once and for all.

Carmen happily tries on her mother's wedding dress, sure that she will be a "June bride," but George gently "translates" Jason's tactful breakup letter and Carmen is finally forced to accept the sad truth. George then finds that Benny is living in her car just outside of the Lopez home, though he refuses to give in to her guilt trip and allow her back inside, reminding her that she was far from a doting parent in his youth. Benny then accidentally torches the car with another carelessly-placed cigarette, and when George demands to know why she did not seek out an apartment, he realizes that she is secretly afraid of living on her own and wishes to be near family. Despite his ongoing frustration, he invites her to live with them after all. Includes commercials and promos.
