I DREAM OF JEANNIE: BIGGER THAN A BREADBOX AND BETTER THAN A GENIE (TV)
Summary
One in this situation comedy series about an astronaut, Tony Nelson, and the beautiful but naive genie who caters to his every whim.
Roger, who has been avoiding Tony for a few weeks, comes by for breakfast. Tony assumes it is because he hasn’t let Roger “borrow” Jeannie, but Roger seems wholly uninterested, having found something “better.” At work, Tony gets a visit from Colonel Chuck Yeager. Later, he talks to Roger about his new acquaintance: a fortune-teller named Madame Zolta. Tony is skeptical about this fortune-teller and agrees to meet with her alongside Roger.
They meet Zolta, who seems to know much about Tony, showing him a picture from his childhood through her crystal ball. Tony seems convinced and Zolta invites him to a séance the following night, where he says he would like to speak to his deceased Aunt Sue and Uncle Jeff. However, he confides in Roger that he doesn’t truly believe; he has no Aunt Sue or Uncle Jeff to speak of.
With Jeannie’s help, Tony figures out that Zolta’s crystal ball functions using a simple optical illusion. Dr. Bellows catches him practicing with the crystal ball, but is reprimanded by General Peterson when he returns and Tony feigns ignorance. Jeannie wants to attend the séance, but Tony thinks it will be too risky.
Roger and Tony arrive at the séance to find Dr. Bellows and several others in attendance. The séance begins with Jeannie attending in secret. As the séance progresses, Jeannie interferes more and more, playing pranks on Madame Zolta. Eventually Tony and Roger exit. Tony later reveals that Madame Zolta was part of a real estate scam because she heard that NASA was considering buying more land. The episode ends as Jeannie convinces Tony that crystal balls may have more of a function than he imagined. Commercials deleted.
