SIX FEET UNDER: IN CASE OF RAPTURE (TV)
Summary
One in this series about the Fisher clan, a loving -- if dysfunctional -- family struggling to maintain a sense of normalcy in the face of the stressful day-to-day operations of the eccentric family business, a funeral home in Los Angeles. In this episode, devout Christian Dorothy Sheedy is killed by a car when she joyfully runs into the road, erroneously believing that the Rapture is finally taking place. Three months after the wedding, the Fishers – and Arthur – struggle to accept George's unusual tastes and presence in their home. Nate is annoyed when Dorothy's husband seems totally at peace with her unexplained death, feeling that he should be more "curious" in order to mourn her properly, and Claire bonds with a classmate, Anita, during a boring lecture. Keith undergoes a job interview for an elite security company specializing in the protection of celebrities, and Rico continues his charitable and non-sexual relationship with Sophia, a.k.a. Infinity the stripper. Brenda tells Joe that she has joined a fast-track program to become a therapist, and he tallies up the length of their relationship so far, impatient to get to the next stage.
Nate has strange fantasies about Dorothy, and David excitedly wonders if Keith's high-paying new job will allow them to purchase a bigger home together. Keith then finds that he is on "lobby duty," however, and will not be meeting any famous people any time soon. He reluctantly joins in when his fellow guards make lewd comments about passing women, opting not to reveal his true identity. Tensions in the house increase when George corrects Arthur's scientific "knowledge," and Brenda reminds an eager Joe that she has decided to wait ninety days before being intimate with him, as she wants to get to know him first for once. Vanessa is annoyed when Rico is noticeably distracted during a family night out, and Claire heads to an open-mic night with Anita and meets Anita's friend, the outspoken and witty poet Edie. Edie encourages Claire to resume her photography, pointing out that life is too short to wait for signs. Nate again reacts with anger when Mr. Sheedy calmly declares that his wife's death was God's will, and when David scolds him for making a scene, Nate tells him that there is no comfort to be had after losing a loved one and abruptly quits, deciding that he is "not cut out for this."
Brenda decides to abandon her ninety-day rule and invites Joe into her bed, though the initial experience is slightly "weird" for both of them. Nate complains to Ruth about Nate's sudden decision, and Nate heads to the park with Maya, ignoring Dorothy's weeping son outside. Sophia calls Rico and "invites" him to come over with dinner, and when the house's plumbing malfunctions gruesomely, Claire eagerly photographs the bloody scene, finally feeling inspired again. David has a sexual encounter with the attractive plumber, and George tells Ruth that he is finding it hard to "connect" with her children. Nate encounters Nathaniel, who agrees that he is "better off" not working in the family business, and Nate admits that he longed to be "free" when Lisa was alive but now misses her greatly. David immediately confesses his dalliance to Keith, who does not seem particularly angry, and George is taken aback when he receives a particularly disgusting and insulting package in the mail from an anonymous sender.
