DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES: EVERY DAY A LITTLE DEATH (TV)
Summary
One in this darkly comedic soap opera about the denizens of Wisteria Lane, a suburban neighborhood with a seedy underbelly that is thrust to the forefront after the suicide of one titular housewife.
In this episode, Martha's body is finally found in its shallow grave and Felicia receives the bad news. Susan grows jealous when she learns that Mike is helping Edie rebuild her house after the fire, which Susan caused. Lynette's attempts to relax at a peaceful yoga class are stymied when she arrives too late to place her children in the daycare program, and Bree, not yet divorced from Rex, continues her chaste "romance" with pharmacist George. Gabrielle learns that Carlos has been placed under house arrest, meaning that he can't work and bring in money. As the news of Martha's demise spreads, Felicia matter-of-factly informs the curious "vultures" that her sister's death was a violent one. Edie barges into the women's poker game and announces that she intends to spread her friend Martha's ashes herself, as Felicia seems disinterested; the other four awkwardly decline to accompany her upstate.
Lynette is forced to shave Parker's head when his mischievous brothers put bubble gum in his hair. Bree is deeply moved when George gifts her with his grandfather's vintage WWII Luger. Susan panics when Felicia reveals that Martha kept extremely detailed diaries of her mundane life, including all the neighborhood gossip. Julie advises Susan to come clean with Edie and beg forgiveness for the accidental arson. Mike is angered when Noah "fires" him from investigating Deirdre's death, though revealing that he is dying of a brain tumor and needs fast answers about his daughter's fate. The bossy yoga lady bends the rules for Lynette when she mistakenly guesses that Parker is undergoing chemotherapy. When Carlos brings up the idea of kids again, an indignant Gabrielle puts "the man of the house" in his place by stealing his dinner and eating it outside, where he can't chase her thanks to his ankle monitor.
Bree takes novice George out shooting, but he ends up losing a toe when she quickly dodges his attempt to kiss her and he misfires as a result. He is deeply offended by the snub, and she admits that she's not truly ready for a new relationship. Edie wonders if Susan has an ulterior motive when she agrees to help out with Martha's mini-memorial. Lynette is forced to admit her lie when a cancer survivor offers a confused Parker some words of encouragement. George grows angry when Bree gently tries to put an end to their ambiguous relationship. When a tearful Edie thanks Susan for being a "true friend" despite their differences, Susan guiltily blurts out the truth about the house fire — prompting Edie to throw Martha's ashes all over her. Mike promises Noah that he's still committed to his mission of finding Deirdre's killer, and Noah comments that he's "already killed for her once." Carlos secretly tampers with Gabrielle's birth control pills, and Edie agrees not to tell the police about Susan's actions — in return for regular invitations to the girls' poker game. Susan agrees, and Edie finally puts her friend Martha "to rest." Elsewhere, George watches pharmacy security tape footage of Bree, suggesting that his obsession with her is mounting.
