ACCORDING TO JIM: DRESS TO KILL ME (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about Jim, a construction business owner in Chicago, and his ongoing battles with his wife, three kids and in-laws. In this episode, Jim and Cheryl take the kids shopping for their Halloween costumes, and Dana admits that she intends to take advantage of the holiday to wear a sexy outfit. Jim and Andy decide to go as members of Kiss, but Jim is then dumbfounded when Kyle opts to dress as Cinderella. Cheryl is unfazed, glad that her son did not select a violent character, but Jim laments that Kyle has been "harmed" by growing up around too many girls and need to "be a boy," meaning that he must roughhouse with his sisters and eschew dresses, among other things. On Halloween night, Nurse Cheryl and Catwoman Dana prepare to take the kids out, and Jim arrives with Kyle in a newly purchased T-Rex outfit. Jim and Andy don their rock-and-roll outfits, but Kyle then changes his mind and puts the dress back on.
Kyle refuses to bend to his father's will and accept the dinosaur costume, even when Jim alternately threatens him with "the Halloween police" and tries to entice him with chocolate. Jim is then visited by "adult Kyle," who tells him that a four-year-old boy must be allowed to enjoy his harmless dress-up fun and that his future is not in danger because of a mere costume. When Jim suggests that he will be "pushed around" for being different, Adult Kyle points out that his younger self already has the fortitude to stand up to his dad. Jim finally accepts his son's choice, and Cinderella soon heads out trick-or-treating with her two "ugly stepsisters." When the family reunites, Cheryl is pleased to see that Jim's attitude has relaxed, and Adult Kyle thanks his father for being more open-minded. Later, however, Jim experiences a disturbing dream about his daughters' alarming futures. Includes commercials and promos.
