COSBY: REFRIGERATOR LOGIC (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about Hilton Lucas, who finds himself retired after his job at the airport is eliminated.

Hilton purchases a new refrigerator and is quite excited about it, although it soon begins making strange undefinable noises. He soon starts obsessing over the refrigerator to determine why it is making noise. The next day he calls a customer service hotline in an attempt to receive assistance about the refrigerator. With some difficulty he attempts to get through to the customer service representatives to try to get the refrigerator replaced, and the company decides to send over a repairman at some point that day. Lucas is unhappy with the surcharge they place on him and is forced to wait in the house all day to let him in. He does not arrive, although he finds a note claiming that the repairman arrived but that Hilton was not there, much to his confusion. The repairman finally arrives, and Hilton attempts to explain his problem, trying to coax the refrigerator into making sounds. The repairman does find a problem with the unit’s freezer fan motor, and he says Hilton will have to wait a week for him to replace the part despite having the part on hand. The repairman explains that the parts are for other customers and convinces Hilton to sign a form ordering the replacement part for the following week, although Hilton changes his mind when he hears about additional surcharges, including one accrued without actually performing any work on their part.

This causes further problems with Hilton’s dealings with the company, resulting in delays on the scheduled date of the refrigerator repair. The representative on the phone curses him out and hangs up on him, enraging him. Hilton decides to visit the company personally in order to straighten things out. Once there, he is redirected to a “courtesy phone” despite his stated desire to speak to someone face-to-face. He manages to infiltrate the back office in order to speak to Randy, the representative he originally spoke to on the phone. Randy is flustered by Hilton’s arrival and tries to get him to use the phone until Hilton mentions that he was insulted by one of the representatives. Randy shows Hilton extremely rude letters sent to him by customers and starts expounding about his own personal problems. Hilton convinces Randy to accompany him to visit his supervisor, whom Hilton believes is the one who cursed him out over the phone. However, in his excitement Randy accidentally locks Hilton in his office. Eventually the refrigerator is repaired, much to Hilton’s joy. Commercials deleted.
