ALIAS: FACADE {FAÇADE} (TV)

Summary

One in this dramatic action series about CIA double agent Sydney Bristow and her adventures with her colleagues and her enemies. In this episode, a bomb goes off in a Belfast building and kills many people. Dixon explains that a Daniel Ryan set it off as the first of two "demonstrations" for the Covenant, to whom he intends to sell weaponry. They decide to pose as the Covenant to prevent the second bombing, using the defector Lisenker's information to effectively fool Ryan. In Belfast, Weiss finds and arrests Ryan in a bar, but Sydney and Vaughn, pretending to be Covenant, arrive to "kill" Weiss and "save" Ryan. Back in L.A., they carefully construct a fake Russian hotel room to look like the one in which Ryan usually does business, and Jack poses as concierge when Ryan awakens. Sydney attempts to purchase the bomb from Ryan, even showing him a staged newscast saying that he is wanted for the bombing and the shootings. Ryan calls her bluff, but Lisenker suddenly arrives and vouches for her, and Ryan agrees to the deal only if he can deal directly with Sark, whom he has fortunately never met. Vaughn poses as Sark and Ryan tells him that he will meet with his associate aboard a flight from Rome to Paris and make the purchase there. They realize that they need the real Sark to recognize the criminal, and send out a false message alerting the real Sark to the sales opportunity.

Both "Sarks" board the plane, but Ryan's associate does not appear, and Sydney and the others realize that it might be a trap just to get Sark. They dig into the bomber's past and Sloane, in bed with Barnett, informs them that the Covenant had Ryan's brother murdered. Sydney realizes that she, as "Julia Thorne," was in fact the killer, and that Ryan may be willing to kill everyone aboard the plane to get revenge. Vaughn takes Sark into custody, though Sark observes that they have both been tricked, and Sydney calls to tell him to ground the plane immediately. Vaughn finds the bomb and Marshall attempts to help him diffuse it by examining a similar device in his office, but quickly realizes that it is triggered by altitude and will go off if they land. Realizing that they are united against the Covenant, Sydney reveals herself to Ryan as CIA and shows him the fake room, and Dixon tells him that he will go free if he disables the bomb and gives them all of his weaponry. Marshall and Vaughn attempt to "trick" the bomb into not exploding, while Sydney tries to appeal to Ryan by telling him that the Covenant damaged her life as well with two years of brainwashing, admitting that the person she loves is on the plane.

Vaughn recruits Sark's help in finding an airtight container for the bomb, and Ryan agrees to deactivate it by phone, but instead sets both it and the one in Marshall's office to explode in five minutes. He then calmly informs Sydney that he knows that she was the one to kill his brother, and Dixon quickly evacuates the building. Jack tries a more direct approach, however, and strangles Ryan into unconsciousness before painfully shocking him back to life, threatening to do it again if he does not help them. Ryan relents and gives them the real disarming code, at which point Vaughn and Sark fight in the cargo hold, with Vaughn gaining the upper hand. Sark and Ryan are both taken into custody, and Sydney breaks down in the parking garage, overwhelmed by the day's events. Vaughn returns, and the two embrace. Includes commercials and promos.
