I'M WITH HER: I'M NOT WITH HER {SERIES FINALE} (TV)

Summary

The series finale of this comedy series about a schoolteacher’s relationship with a famous movie star. Alex and Patrick prepare to have him move in with her, although Cheri is resistant to it. Director Michael Barrett meets with Alex to offer her the part in his latest film, and Alex introduces him to Patrick. The movie will be filming in locations throughout Italy, but Alex declines, not wanting to leave so soon after Patrick moved in. After a few weeks, there is friction between Alex and Patrick due to their divergent lifestyles and standards of etiquette. They try to reach compromises about their possessions and the arrangement of the house, but during an interview Patrick notices that Alex has apparently done away with his favorite sentimental trinkets. They get into an argument about the problems with moving in together, and they begin to wonder if it is a sign that their entire relationship is not working. They each have their own personal resentments and problems with each other, and they each do not see a way to resolve them. Because of this, they decide to break up. Soon Alex’s attempts to distract herself from Patrick fail and she misses him terribly. Cheri recommends taking Michael up on his offer and traveling to Italy, but Alex is reluctant and depressed. However, she agrees to go to a fundraiser that night and has Cheri arrange for a “date” for her. She is accompanied by another movie star, Tyler Vance, who returns home with her. She is off-put by his egotism and insensitivity, and tells him that she doesn’t want to see him anymore, having her security guard escort him out. She misses Patrick too much and decides to go out and see him, despite Cheri’s protestations. Meanwhile, Steve arranges for a pair of women to come over for a game of strip-Ping-Pong, hoping to take Patrick’s mind off of things. Patrick is uncomfortable with this and declines Steve’s offer. Alex sees the women coming out of the apartment and decides not to go in to see him. Patrick grows depressed as well, taking a leave of absence from his teaching job and sitting in his apartment alone. He watches Alex’s last interview before they broke up, and realizes that Alex was afraid that he would leave her, leading to her anxiety about them moving in together. He decides to demonstrate his dedication to her by proposing marriage to her. However, when he gets to her house he finds that she has already boarded a plane for Italy, thus ruining his chance. Includes commercials.
