HOPE & FAITH: CHARLEY'S BASEBALL (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about Hope Shanowski and her family, including her outrageous former soap-star sister Faith Fairfield. In this episode, Justin accidentally destroys Charley's prized baseball, autographed by Yankee Roger Clemens. Faith quickly takes the blame and schemes with Hope and Justin to replace it, and they are relieved to learn that Clemens will be in town that very weekend. Elsewhere, Charley prepares to cut down a sickly tree in their backyard, though Hayley, feeling that he is prematurely "killing" it, refuses to budge from her treehouse. Faith and Hope attempt to sneak into the Yankees' locker room to secure another signed ball from Clemens, but they are stopped by a guard, who is unimpressed when Faith informs him that she is a "huge star." They soon run into ball-boy Eddie, an old flame of Faith's, though he proves to be less than helpful, as he is still offended by Faith's dismissive treatment.

Hayley manages to recruit Justin to her "cause," and as Faith and Hope attempt to sneak into Clemens' room through a vent, Hope realizes that Faith took the fall for Justin's error and Faith explains that she similarly disappointed their own father as a child and wants to shield her nephew from the same fate. Now all the more determined to replace the ball, Hope and Faith finally make it into the locker room in a laundry basket and unconvincingly attempt to pose as sports reporters, though they are forced to hide in two bathtubs when they are chased by the guard again. Faith ends up having another uncomfortable run-in with Eddie, but Hope finally manages to score a signature from the bemused Clemens. Back at home, Justin replaces the ball and offers a clueless Faith some tips on how best to punish him. Hope and Charley finally manage to chase their kids out of the treehouse by implying that they have shared some romantic moments there, though they stop short of having another one when they recall that the tree is, in fact, in danger of collapse. Includes commercials and promos.
