TEKWAR: BETRAYAL {SERIES FINALE} (TV)
Summary
The final episode of this dramatic science-fiction/fantasy series set in the year 2045, about an ex-police officer battling the Tek Lords, a group of powerful drug dealers, while working to clear his name of a terrible crime. Jake and Sam have been trying to take down the Tek Lord Julian Lambert, but their latest bust goes awry when Jake hesitates, experiencing strange visions. They return to Cosmos only to find that Bascom has hired Jeffrey Slater, a security specialist, to oversee and approve all of the organization's day-to-day activities, as he believes there is a serious security risk at Cosmos. Jake is unhappy at Slater's presence, but Boscom tells him not to interfere. Jake confesses to Danny that he's been having nightmares recently and he's been seeing a psychiatrist as part of his probation in order to deal with them. Later he meets with the psychiatrist, Dr. Janet Blake, who works to help him visualize the source of his nightmares. She attempts to facilitate this via a machine that induces nightmares in Jake so he can confront his fears. Afterwards, Jake accompanies Sam as they infiltrate an empty nightclub looking for one of Lambert's associates, only to find him dead inside. Slater reports to Bascom that he believes that Jake is responsible for the security leak and may be working for Lambert, presenting several pieces of evidence to support his claim. Bascom does not want to believe Slater, but allows him to pursue the investigation. Jake's request for cyber-traces gets denied due to Slater's regulations, and the two of them argue. Jake gets angry that everyone at Cosmos appears to be betraying him. He gets Sam to accompany him to interrogate a man he believes to be one of Lambert's associates, but Jake gets too violent and Sam is forced to separate them. He believes that Lambert is trying to frame him for some reason. Jake returns to Bascom and they argue; both note that they are unable to trust the other. Dr. Blake secretly speaks to Lambert; she is working for him and he orders her to plant a hypnotic suggestion in Jake's mind. Jake visits Dr. Blake for another therapy session. Later he meets with Slater and asks him to ease up on him, but Slater refuses, calling Jake a "cancer" who sold out Bascom. Soon they engage in a fistfight and Jake leaves Slater on the ground, conscious. Slater goes outside and someone shoots him with a pulse gun, killing him instantly. Bascom sends Lieutenant Winger to arrest Jake, as he is now a suspect in Slater's murder. Sam and Nika confront Bascom over this decision and Bascom says he won't compromise the security and integrity of Cosmos. They then question his motives for going after Lambert and reveals that his conflict with Lambert is personal: they served together in the military and he thought of Lambert as his "protégé" until he murdered people and started selling weapons to Tek Lords. Lambert attempted to frame Bascom, but he managed to find enough evidence against him to put him away. He believes that Jake is emulating Lambert's actions but Nika and Sam point out that this may not be the case. Jake, highly agitated and frightened, visits Dr. Blake, claiming that he didn't kill Slater but that he threw his pulse gun in the river. He wants to contact Danny but is afraid that the police will be monitoring his calls and sets out on his own. Lambert advises Dr. Blake to stay put for the time being. Jake gets Spaz and Cowgirl to give him a brief holographic conversation with Danny; Danny believes Jake is innocent but Jake tells he can't go to the police. Lieutenant Winger arrives to arrest Jake, but he experiences another vision before managing to escape Winger. Sam visits Danny to try to get information on Jake's whereabouts, but Danny feels he cannot trust her anymore and gives her nothing. Dr. Blake uses her machine to implant a suggestion in Jake's mind: that Bascom is the one responsible for turning everyone against him. He awakens and, as per the suggestion, leaves to kill Bascom. Sam meets Danny in a diner and he changes his mind about trusting her. He tells her about Jake's nightmares and therapy sessions. Sam discovers that Lambert was one of Dr. Blake's patients. She then interrogates Dr. Blake and gets her to confess that she's been working with Lambert and that the security leak was caused by her extracting information from Jake's mind. Bascom discovers that Jake is on his way to the office to kill him and orders the entire building to be evacuated and for all security to be deactivated. When Jake arrives at Cosmos, only Bascom is there to greet him and he confronts him. He reveals the truth and asks Jake to forgive him for losing faith in him, even allowing Jake to hold a gun to his head. He manages to talk Jake down, and the two of them regain their trust in each other. The episode ends as Jake and Bascom confront the captured Lambert just before he is to be put in cryogenic suspension. Commercials deleted.
