REAL WORLD, THE: NEW ORLEANS: FOR PETER'S SAKE (TV)

Summary

The ninth season of this reality-based series about the exploits of seven strangers chosen by MTV to share rent-free lodging in New Orleans and to be followed around by camera crews for several months.

In this episode, Julie's family continues their stay in the house and Julie is frustrated by her relationship with her father, saying she does not fit the "vision" he had of a daughter. Kelley is unsure about staying in New Orleans and continuing her relationship with Peter, saying that she rarely lets others get close to her. David voices his support, saying that their relationship "works." Julie ponders attending a college other than Brigham Young University, and grows irritated when her father publicly admonishes her for using a mild swear word. She confronts him about his opinion of her lifestyle, saying she felt forced into attending seminary and the conservative Mormon college, and that she cannot live up to his unreasonable expectations. Eventually her parents depart, and her brother Allen attempts to comfort her, saying that their father is trying to manipulate her into changing her ways. Jamie tells her that the confrontation was a good thing, saying that it is better to deal with hard family issues sooner rather than later.

Kelley and Peter have a fight when she makes a snide comment in response to a romantic gesture; she acknowledges that she pushes people away emotionally. Peter calls her out on being "really callous," and Danny agrees, saying that she should appreciate Peter's kindness. Matt talks to Julie about her showdown with her father, and she says that while upsetting, it ended on a "constructive" note. When her parents return, her father admits that he does not give her enough credit for being a good person. Kelley apologizes to Peter over the phone and he writes her a letter in response, which she shares with Danny. She confesses that thinking about a long-term relationship is unsettling, but decides to stay in New Orleans with Peter; they are both happy about their plans. Julie talks with her mom, who says that her father did not realize that their relationship needed work until after she left for college. Julie decides to be more "tolerant" of her father's views, acknowledging both the strengths and weaknesses of her family and hoping for a more equal relationship. Commercials deleted.
