LIGHTS! CAMERA! MONTY! (TV)
Summary
This musical variety special features host Monty Hall and a variety of famous friends celebrating the excitement and glamour of Hollywood motion pictures.
Hall crosses the "Red Sea" and arrives on a Hollywood back lot, where he is joined by Michele Lee, Steve Lawrence, Marty Feldman, and The Lennon Sisters, all of whom sing a medley including "New York, New York," "My Kind of Town," "Do You Know the Way to San Jose," "Comin' in on a Wing and a Prayer," "They Didn't Believe Me," "Kansas City," "Down by the Station," "Chinatown, My Chinatown," "It's Magic," "Stranger in Paradise," "I Left My Heart in San Francisco," "All Alone," Guadalajara" and "Hooray for Hollywood."
Lee travels to "Camelot" and sings "I Honestly Love You," and Hall, Lawrence, and Feldman appear as the Three Musketeers, singing "I Remember It Well" from "Gigi." Hall then chats with a couple of tourists exploring the back lots, including one "Ironside" fan who has not noticed that the tram driver is in fact Raymond Burr. Hall then visits the famous house from "Psycho" (1960), and the Halloween-costumed Carl Jablonski Dancers perform an elaborate number featuring Feldman. Hall visits the Lennon Sisters in their trailers and they perform "Come Saturday Morning," and when Hall, Lee, and Feldman commence "Singin' in the Rain," they are nearly swept away by a Hollywood-style flood.
In the "Old West," Lee and the Lennon Sisters dress in saloon finery to sing "Let Me Be There," and Hall finds himself involved in a cowboy shoot-out and attempts to rescue Feldman from a brawl. Lawrence and Lee sing "You've Got a Friend," and Hall, after an encounter with Dennis Weaver, sings "I Won't Last a Day Without You." He then visits the famed Stage 28, which served as the doomed Paris Opera House in "The Phantom of the Opera" (1925), and performs "Shadows on a Screen." Hall then imagines himself in several leading-man roles and "appears" in W.C. Fields' role opposite Mae West in "My Little Chickadee" (1940), in Jimmy Stewart's role opposite Marlene Dietrich in "Destry Rides Again" (1939), and in Rock Hudson's role opposite Doris Day in "Lover Come Back" (1961). Finally, Hall, Lee, Lawrence, Feldman, and the dancers close the program with "Gee, But It's Good to Be Here" from "Happy Hunting." Commercials deleted.
