MYSTERY!: AGATHA CHRISTIE'S MISS MARPLE, SERIES 3: SLEEPING MURDER {PART 1 OF 2} (TV)

Summary

Part one of two. One in this mystery anthology series. Host Vincent Price introduces this series of Agatha Christie mysteries featuring the insightful, elderly amateur sleuth Miss Marple. In this part, Miss Marple becomes acquainted with a troubled newlywed couple, Gwenda and Giles Reed, through her nephew Raymond. Gwenda has recently left her native New Zealand to settle down in England with her new husband. While driving aimlessly through the countryside one day, Gwenda spots a house for sale that immediately appeals to her. As the Reeds tour the house, Gwenda falls in love with it and convinces Giles to buy it -- even though she also has odd feelings of deja vu about a past tragedy in the house. As the Reeds settle into their new home, Gwenda's strange feelings continue; for example, she intuitively knows about certain features of the home, such as a hidden door and walkway. When Giles goes to visit friends in London, leaving her home alone, Gwenda's suspicions mount into a sense of horror. Plagued by visions of a murder in the foyer of the house, she becomes convinced that she is losing her mind. She flees the countryside and joins Giles in London, where she meets Raymond and Miss Marple. Always interested in mysteries, Miss Marple speaks with Gwenda about her strange experiences. Miss Marple deduces that Gwenda has most likely been in her present house before, as a young child. After calling relatives, the Reeds discover that Gwenda indeed lived in the country home as an infant, with her father and his young bride -- her stepmother Helen. Unfortunately, Gwenda's father is dead, and his wife Helen has disappeared, leaving no answers to the mystery of Gwenda's visions of murder. With Miss Marple's help, the Reeds embark on an investigation into the history of the family and of the house. An ad in the paper leads to a meeting with Helen's brother Dr. Kennedy, as well as a visit to the sanitarium in which Gwenda's father died. As each new piece of the puzzle falls into place, the Reeds become increasingly anxious about the true story of Gwenda's father, Helen, and the tragedy that took place in the country home.
