GREAT PERFORMANCES: MY FAVORITE BROADWAY: THE LOVE SONGS (TV)

Summary

One in this series of dramatic arts programs. This concert, filmed at the City Center for Music and Dance in New York to raise funds for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, features performances of some of Broadway's greatest romantic numbers. The program opens with Adam Pascal and Brent Spiner performing "Love is Sweeping the Country" from "Of Thee I Sing," and Rebecca Luker sings "'Til There Was You" from "The Music Man." Peter Gallagher performs "Lover" from "Love Me Tonight," and Marin Mazzie sings "So In Love" from "Kiss Me, Kate." Host Julie Andrews then takes the stage and offers brief introductory comments, and Tom Wopat sings "Lullaby of Broadway" from "42nd Street." Nathan Lane performs "Sue Me" from "Guys and Dolls," and Heather Headley sings "He Touched Me" from "Drat! The Cat!". The Three Mo' Tenors perform part of "La donna è mobile" from the opera "Rigoletto," and then sing "Let the Good Times Roll" from "Five Guys Named Moe." Next, the Broadway Inspirational Voices sing a medley of "I'll Cover You" and "Seasons of Love" from "Rent," joined by soloist Pascal. Pascal and Headley sing "Elaborate Lives" from "Aida," and Barry Manilow performs "Every Single Day" from his musical "Harmony."

Luker sings "Too Late Now" from "Royal Wedding," and Gallagher sings "Sometimes A Day Goes By" from "Woman of the Year." Mazzie performs "Not a Day Goes By" from "Merrily We Roll Along," and Bebe Neuwirth performs "I'm a Brass Band" from "Sweet Charity." Ron Raines sings the title song from "Gigi," and Chita Rivera joins Spiner for "Rosie" from "Bye Bye Birdie." Andrews shares a memory of auditioning for Richard Rodgers, and Robert Goulet performs "If Ever I Would Leave You" from "Camelot." Linda Eder sings "Come Rain or Come Shine" from "St. Louis Woman," and Michael Crawford performs "The Music of the Night" from "The Phantom of the Opera." Michael McCormick and Michael Mulheren sing "Brush Up Your Shakespeare" from "Kiss Me, Kate," and Rivera performs "How Lucky Can You Get" from "Funny Lady." For the final number, Andrews joins Crawford onstage for "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face" from "My Fair Lady." Commercials deleted.
