DREW CAREY SHOW, THE: KATE'S WEDDING (TV)

Summary

One in this series of comedies starring stand-up comedian Drew Carey as a single guy who attempts to juggle his romantic endeavors and his menial job at a Cleveland department store, while still maintaining his sense of humor. Kate reveals that she is getting married to Kirk, a navy fighter pilot she met only a few weeks ago. Drew is stunned by this development. Kate introduces Kirk to Drew, Oswald, and Lewis, and Drew is secretly enraged at the prospect of Kate getting married. However, when he tries to contact her to try to talk her out of it, she isn't available. The day before the wedding, Drew lures Kate to his house and tries to get her to think about what she's doing, feeling as though she's rushing into her marriage without truly knowing anything about Kirk. She reveals she had to rush the wedding because Kirk is being stationed in Guam, and they will be moving there after the wedding. Drew seems to accept her decision, but instead tricks her and locks her in his basement. Drew heads back to the bar, where he, Oswald, and Lewis talk to Kirk to try to find out more about him, believing he may have some sort of shady past. Nicki enters Drew's kitchen and hears Kate calling for help, she looks for the key to open the door. Drew and company get Kirk to admit that in a previous marriage he cheated on his wife with her best friend. At that moment, Kate makes her way into the bar, having escaped Drew's basement. She evacuates everyone except Drew and confronts him. Drew tells her what he found out about Kirk, but she reveals she already knows and believes they are kindred spirits because they both made mistakes in their past. She gets Drew to admit that he is not concerned about Kate's happiness, but still loves her and doesn't want her to get married to someone else. Much to Kate's disappointment, Drew says he won't be attending the wedding. The wedding ceremony begins, and Drew arrives after all, saying he wants Kate to be happy. He walks her down the aisle and gives her away. Later, Drew, Oswald, and Lewis go back to his place and spend hours drinking until the wee hours of the morning. The episode ends with Drew sitting introspectively. Includes commercials.
