CHEERS: NORM AND CLIFF'S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about a group of regulars at a Boston bar.

Sam begins a habit of opening the bar late, and his customers are displeased with this. Woody discovers the home shopping channel and becomes enthralled with it, purchasing useless novelty items. Rebecca argues with Carla about her time cards, and Norm decides to exacerbate the situation by subtly getting Rebecca angrier at Carla. Norm and Cliff reminisce about their earlier experiences with starting arguments between people. Frasier decides to bring the other members of his psychiatry society to Cheers for their monthly meeting and presents Sam with his credit card to pay for their alcohol. Norm gets the idea to report the credit card number as stolen to the bank, thus preventing it from going through with Sam and causing conflict between him and Frasier. His plan seems to work as Sam gets into a heated argument with Frasier; as per the bank’s instructions Sam must tear up Frasier’s card despite Frasier’s protestations. Frasier, furious, leaves the bar and swears that he will never return.

No one hears from Frasier, and Norm regrets inciting the incident between him and Sam. Woody continues to buy useless junk from the home shopping channel, presenting much of it as gifts for Rebecca. Woody agrees with Rebecca’s assertion that what he buys is “crap,” but admits that he is easily swayed by the channel’s sales technique and he has become addicted to purchasing the items. Rebecca attempts to help him overcome his addiction. Frasier continues to refuse Sam’s calls, and Norm and Cliff vow to remedy the situation by explaining the truth to Frasier and apologizing. Meanwhile, Lilith attempts to help Frasier get over his resentment, but to no avail. Cliff and Norm arrive and try to tell him the truth, but Frasier misinterprets the purpose of their visit, believing that Sam is willing to apologize to him in public over the matter. They go with Frasier’s assumptions, and bring him back to Cheers. They try to get the two of them to apologize and forget the whole thing, but Woody inadvertently reminds Frasier of the incident and he and Sam start arguing again. Before Frasier can leave, Norm and Cliff finally tell the truth. As punishment, Sam takes Norm and Cliff’s credit cards and gives them to Woody to help feed his shopping addiction.
