CHEERS: DIANE'S NIGHTMARE (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about a group of regulars at a Boston bar.
In this episode, a powerful thunderstorm hits Boston as Sam reveals that he discovered a secret – and possibly haunted – wine cellar under the bar. Diane is horrified to learn that "Andy Andy," the former Cheers bartender and ex-con who once attempted to kill her, has escaped from prison. Sam assures her that Andy Andy would not attempt to hurt her again in front of everyone. When several of their friends mysteriously disappear into the cellar and the power cuts out, Diane is sure that her "devilish crew" of friends are teasing her – but she then encounters Andy Andy in the basement. She awakens from her strange nightmare and seeks counsel from Frasier, who assures her that Andy Andy, with whom he has been secretly meeting, has "made progress" since being released from prison.
Diane firmly refuses to meet with her would-be killer, but Andy Andy arrives at the bar. Offering his contrite apologies, Andy Andy promises that he is leaving the country. He admits that he has told his fiancée Cynthia some "tiny fibs" about his past, and when she joins him at "his" bar, the Cheers gang is forced to pretend that Sam is the ex-con "flasher" employee, Diane the desperate ex-girlfriend and Frasier the unhinged kleptomaniac. Diane prepares to call the cops when Andy Andy departs with "his share" of the night's take, but he soon returns without Cynthia and hands back the money, thanking them all for their help. Diane is forced to admit that he may have truly changed his criminal ways. Sam then suddenly drops his "buffoonish façade" and assumes a debonair persona, to which Diane responds with amorous enthusiasm – but she is then disappointed to realize that the evening was yet another strange dream. Commercials deleted.
