CHEERS: FAIRY TALES CAN COME TRUE (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about a group of regulars at a Boston bar.

In this episode, on Halloween, the Cheers gang swaps ghost stories and Frasier invites Diane along to see the Boston Pops, surprised when Sam expresses uncharacteristic interest in the symphony's talents. Cliff, costumed as Ponce de Leon, soon joins the holiday party, and some of the guests begin to speculate about his lack of success with women, wondering if his interests lie elsewhere. Frasier learns that he cannot attend the Pops concert after all and urges Diane to invite Sam in his place; everyone is shocked when Cliff suddenly hits it off with "Tinkerbell" and spends the entire evening dancing with her. Diane, sure that Sam is still suffering from "tortured longings" for her, invites him on a strictly platonic and non-sexual "date" to the orchestra, and Cliff is overjoyed when Tinkerbell promises to meet him at the bar on the following day for a real, non-costumed date.

Later, Sam and Diane reflect on their enjoyable non-romantic night together. When Cliff begins to panic that he will turn back into a "tongue-tied yutz" during his date, Norm sternly advises him to collect himself and not squander a promising opportunity. Tinkerbell fails to arrive for several hours and a deeply disappointed Cliff seems prepared to give up on romance for good. But she then phones the bar, confessing that she, too, has been wracked with nerves about their date. She finally joins him at the bar, introducing herself as Sharon O'Hare, and the two begin their evening together with a little help from Sam. Commercials deleted.
