CHEERS: DADDY'S LITTLE MIDDLE-AGED GIRL (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about a group of regulars at a Boston bar. In this episode, Cliff and Norm are excited to have a run-in with Ethel Kennedy, though their attempts to get a photo with her go awry. Woody tells the others that he has decided that he and Kelly will live in his small apartment together, as he has a ten-year lease. He adds that he has rejected her wealthy parents' offer to buy them a home, revealing that he has some antiquated Hanover-bred views about being "the man of the house." Rebecca's stern Navy captain father Franklin then arrives at the bar in search of his daughter, and Sam is flustered when he makes his dislike of him plain. Rebecca tells the other that her father considers her a "screw-up," and they are all highly amused that Rebecca's parents still support her financially with an allowance.

Kelly arrives and expresses her dislike of Woody's unimpressive apartment, but he stands firm in his decision to stay there. Franklin then informs Rebecca that she is moving back home with him, as she has proven herself too irresponsible to stay in Boston, ignoring Sam's protests that he is being unfair. However, he then tells Frasier that he is actually employing reverse psychology, hoping to spurn Rebecca into proving herself and refusing to accept any more allowance. Woody reconsiders his position when he arrives home to find the apartment bursting with Kelly's belongings, and Franklin realizes that his plan has failed when Rebecca packs her things and seems prepared to move back home after all. He admits that he was trying to trick her, but she declares that he was right and that she cannot make it on her own without his help, and he is forced to increase her allowance. Carla praises Rebecca's devious plan, and Rebecca admits that her mother was in on the scheme all along. Commercials deleted.
