TAXI: LATKA'S COOKIES (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about the employees of a New York City cab company.
In this episode, Latka arrives late to work and announces that his grandmother has passed away and left him her famous cookie recipe; the other employees are somewhat less than thrilled with the culinary results. Louie loses patience with the "foreign dog" yet again, and Latka angrily quits — or is fired — in order to go into business for himself with the cookies. Later, the other cabbies admit that the baked goods "kind of grow on you" and might be lucrative after all. When Reverend Jim returns from vacation and samples them, he informs Louie that they contain coca leaves and therefore cause cocaine-like behavior in consumers.
Alex notices his co-workers' strange behavior as Louie attempts to take advantage of Elaine's newly amorous outlook on the world. Alex finally visits Latka, who is maniacally baking at home, and breaks the bad news about the cookies. Latka is crushed to realize that "his dream is gone"; Alex offers to stay with him through a difficult night as he comes down from his extreme high. Once Alex falls asleep, Latka has a hallucination of cookie mogul "Famous" Wally Amos, who assures him that "success is wonderful" and urges him to continue pursuing his dreams. Latka then informs Alex that he wishes to be "rolling in money," thus finally making him a true American. Commercials deleted.
