FRASIER: DARK VICTORY {SECOND SEASON FINALE} (TV)

Summary

The second season finale in this comedy series about Frasier Crane, a divorced psychiatrist who lives in Seattle and hosts a phone-in radio show.

In this episode, Frasier advises a caller, Caroline, to abandon her "dry and long-winded" therapist, as he no longer appears to be helping her. Roz then sadly admits that she had to miss out on her family's annual reunion in Wisconsin. Frasier tries to cheer her up with an invitation to Martin's birthday party. Back at home, however, Frasier finds Martin and Daphne squabbling over his refusal to do his rehab exercises. A furious Niles arrives and announces that Caroline was in fact his own patient, angry that Frasier ruined their working relationship in one of his hasty "McSessions." When a blackout suddenly strikes, Frasier tries to diffuse the tension with a round of "I'm the Dullest Person," though this only leads to more arguing.

Left alone with Frasier, Roz admits that she intentionally skipped her reunion out of embarrassment over her unremarkable life, though Frasier points out that she is a "pioneer" for women in radio. Daphne then confesses that she has conflicted feelings about finding an apartment of her own, and Frasier suggests that she enjoys being a part of the Crane family. Martin, too, reveals his frustrations over feeling unable to travel and see the world because of his injury; Frasier encourages him to reimagine his dreams of the future. Niles confesses his disappointment over failing to help Caroline, but Frasier assures him that his perfectionism makes him a capable psychiatrist. The others then decide to head to a neighbor's blackout party. An annoyed Frasier declares that he is tired of handling everyone else's problems and having no time for himself, informing them that "the doctor is out." The others agree to respect his wishes, leaving him alone for a quiet evening with Eddie. Commercials deleted.
