ONCE AND AGAIN: THE SECOND TIME AROUND {SEASON TWO FINALE} (TV)

Summary

One in this dramatic series about Rick Sammler and Lily Manning, two middle-aged parents who deal with the realities of divorce while they cope with raising their children and dating.

In this episode, Lily has nightmares about her impending wedding. The next morning, she imagines that she's speaking with her father about the nuptial's details. Over breakfast, Jake notes that Tiffany will be at the wedding since she's working for the caterer. On the way to school, Jessie asks her mother to stop pretending to be enthusiastic about Rick's wedding. Karen denies the charge, and suggests that Jessie sing at the wedding.

In the meantime, Grace gets a letter from Carla, stating that she doesn't miss Eli. However, Grace lies to Eli to save his feelings. Across town, Arnold tells Rick that his finances are in trouble. At her father's urging, Lily inquires into Jake's resources and finds that he's about to lose the restaurant. When Judy stops at the house, Tiffany tells her about Will's complicated history, after which Lily admits her money woes to Judy. Upon realizing that the wedding bills have reached $21,000, Rick and Lily try to agree on cutbacks.

Later, Judy tells Lily that their mother isn't coming to the wedding. As tensions, continue to rise, Lily and Jake conclude that they can't afford such a pricey wedding. Later, Eli finds Carla's letter and is heartbroken about its contents, even as Grace tries to comfort him. As Eli and Grace are about to kiss, Jessie interrupts and tells them that the wedding has been called off. The news quickly spreads to Jake, Tiffany, and Karen. However, Rick and Lily soon realize their mistake and decide on a no-frills wedding -- to take place that evening.

Rick talks to Zoe, alleviating her fears about the future as Lily counsels Grace. Barbara arrives unexpectedly, much to Lily's delight. The low-key ceremony then goes off without a hitch, after which family members celebrate as Jessie sings a Sammler favorite, "When the Red Red Robin Comes Bob Bob Bobbin' Along." Includes commercials.
