LAVERNE & SHIRLEY: AN AFFAIR TO FORGET (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about two young working women, following their humorous adventures from the 1950s through the 1960s.

In this episode, Shirley wraps up a baby gift at Bardwell’s as she prepares for her trip to see the prospective parents. As soon as she’s out the door, Lyle enters and tries to make out with Laverne as a thank-you for getting him a job at the store. Laverne tries to set him straight about their platonic friendship. Afterward, Laverne is intrigued by Hank, a “cute” customer that wants a gift wrapped for his mother. After a bit of flirting, she accepts a date with him for that night. Back at the apartment, Frank is angered that Laverne would rather go on a date than accompany him to a ballgame. Rhonda opts to be Frank’s “date” as Hank arrives to pick up Laverne for their evening at Captain Kidd’s Galley restaurant. Laverne pretends to have an appetite for the exotic seafood on the menu, at least until Hank’s wife Geraldine arrives.

Laverne goes to the second-floor ladies room, with Hank following her to explain why he didn’t tell her about his spouse. Before returning to his wife’s table, he accidentally knocks Laverne into the fish tank. Trying to swim to the top, she gets temporarily caught in a clamshell – with Geraldine thinking that Laverne is part of the live entertainment. When Laverne finally frees herself, Hank goes back to the fish tank opening and begs Laverne not to expose his infidelity. Laverne keeps Hank’s secret, but pushes him into the tank. Later, Carmine counsels Laverne, who says she doesn’t want to be suspicious of every man she dates. Finally, Shirley returns from her trip and reunites with Carmine, just as Frank drags him away for some “together time.” Commercials deleted.
