LAVERNE & SHIRLEY: A VISIT TO THE CEMETERY (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about two young working women, following their humorous adventures from the 1950s through the 1960s.

In this episode, Lenny and Squiggy perform a magic act in the apartment as Shirley and Carmine do some necking. Laverne arrives home angry after a fight with her father. Shirley later drags Laverne to the Pizza Bowl to force the two to talk. Ultimately, they argue anew after Laverne says she won’t change her mind about accompanying him to her mother’s grave. Franks says he wants Laverne to go with him on the following Sunday, which would have been his wife’s fiftieth birthday. Frank says he never wants to see Laverne again. Back home, Shirley asks Laverne why she won’t go to the cemetery.

Lenny stops by, and tells Laverne how his mother left him on his fifth birthday and never came back. When he says he hates his mother and infers that she hates her mother, too, she slaps him. Laverne then apologizes for her reaction, and admits that she feels confused about her mother’s death. After thinking about Lenny’s story, Laverne meets her father at the gravesite. He then leaves so she can be alone with her mother’s spirit. Shirley soon joins Laverne and gets introduced to “family.” Finally, Laverne makes peace with her past and tells her mother that she’ll always love her. Commercials deleted.
