LAVERNE & SHIRLEY: NOT QUITE SOUTH OF THE BORDER (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about two young working women, following their humorous adventures from the 1950s through the 1960s.

In this episode, Edna and Frank engage in a pillow fight in the girls’ apartment as Laverne and Shirley prepare for a vacation at Raoul’s by the Bay in Neir, Mexico. Lenny and Squiggy stop by to help with the suitcases, but only add to the day’s confusion. Soon, Laverne and Shirley arrive in the hotel lobby, where owner Fred Frick tells the gals that Raoul is dead and he’s taken over. When Fred takes them to their cottage, they note that it’s missing a wall. They also have a third roomie, the zaftig Dotty. After she tells the girls that their luggage has been lost, Dotty takes over the bathroom with claims of having “Raoul’s revenge.”

As they examine their legless bed, a goat wanders inside and Laverne goes crazy. Later, they find that the “indoor pool” is a rubber kiddies’ wading pool which they must share with fellow guests. Come nighttime, the girls realize that there’s no room for them in the bed with overweight Dotty. As the wind picks up, the girls try to put up a tarp, though their plan is for naught when a monsoon sets in. Outside Fred’s room, all the customers gradually gather in protest. While initially denying refunds, Fred is finally forced to relent. Back home, the girls examine their luggage, which is stamped with the decals of various exotic destinations. Commercials deleted.
