LAVERNE & SHIRLEY: DINNER FOR FOUR (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about two young working women, following their humorous adventures from the 1950s through the 1960s.

In this episode, Laverne and Shirley help out Frank by waitressing at the Pizza Bowl during a veterinarians convention. After Frank and Edna leave for a date, the girls scope out prospective dates. To Laverne and Shirley’s delight, Rob Heath and Hank Franklin suggest an intimate party for the next night. They give Laverne and Shirley money for food, along with the key to their apartment and say they’ll be home at 8 p.m. The arrangement doesn’t sit well with Lenny and Squiggy as the gals had promised to accompany them to the teamsters fish-fry dinner on the same night. Getting to the veterinarians’ posh apartment, Laverne and Shirley find corsages in the refrigerator and are duly impressed. Laverne later gets caught in a Murphy bed, from which Shirley is finally able to rescue her.

After getting dinner started, the girls retire to “the powder room,” thus not seeing that the men have brought dates back to the apartment. Upon seeing the foursome, Laverne and Shirley are embarrassed to realize that they misunderstood the arrangement, not realizing that Rob and Hank were hiring them as “kitchen help.” Before leaving in disgrace, the girls take revenge for the catty comments offered by Rob and Hank’s dates. Back at their apartment, Laverne and Shirley realize that they owe an apology to Lenny and Squiggy. They promise to go to next year’s fish fry, which turns out to be the following week.
