LAVERNE & SHIRLEY: LOOK BEFORE YOU LEAP (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about two young working women, following their humorous adventures from the 1950s through the 1960s.

In this episode, Laverne wants to see Dr. Fishburn, a baby doctor, arousing the suspicions of Edna, Squiggy, Lenny, and Carmine. Shirley privately tells Edna that they think Laverne is pregnant. Shirley recounts a recent brewery party where Laverne tried to win a chug-a-lug contest. That night, Laverne met a man she liked. She later realizes that she returned home wearing the man’s boxer shorts, after which she began having morning sickness. Shirley tries to help Laverne piece together what happened that evening at the party. Though she can’t prove it, Laverne is sure nothing happened. Edna tells Shirley about her own gynecologist, who Laverne can readily visit. Laverne admits to Shirley that she doesn’t want to be pregnant.

Lenny then comes by and reveals that he and Squiggy flipped a coin to see who would volunteer to be Laverne’s husband. Lenny says that he won the toss. Though touched, Laverne can’t accept Lenny’s proposal. Later, Frank drops by and Laverne is forced to reveal to her father that she may be pregnant. Frank flips out, but eventually comes to terms and offers his support. Back at the Pizza Bowl, Carmine sings “Once in Love with Amy” as Laverne returns from her doctor’s appointment to happily tell all that the test came back negative. Includes commercials. Also includes an ABC News Brief with Tom Jerrold.
