AMEN: FEAR OF FLYING {SEASON THREE PREMIERE} (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy television series about a dishonest church deacon and his relatives and friends.

Reverend Gregory announces that the church board has been invited to attend a weeklong seminar in the Bahamas, making everyone quite excited. Deacon Frye packs up and invite Thelma along, but she declines, as she has a fear of flying. Deacon Frye tries to convince her to try to confront her fear, and eventually she decides that she will give it a try. Everyone boards their plane, a miniscule dilapidated charter flight, for the Bahamas, and Thelma makes every effort to avoid panicking. Halfway through the flight, the pilot collapses, apparently from food poisoning after eating one of Cassietta and Amelia’s sandwiches. He does not regain consciousness and the flight continues on auto-pilot, as there is no co-pilot. They drag the unconscious pilot into the cockpit and swear not to tell Thelma, fearful that she would have an anxiety attack. Amelia and Cassietta do their best not to raise Thelma’s suspicions while combatting their own fear.

Meanwhile, Deacon Frye and Reverend Gregory use the pilot’s radio to contact an airport control tower for assistance. The man at the control tower attempts to talk them through the landing process, and they decide to tell Thelma the truth about the situation. She reacts poorly and attempts to jump out of the plane, but Reverend Gregory stops her when he says that he loves her. Reverend Gregory and Deacon Frye lose contact with the control tower and attempt to land the plane themselves, although they have no idea what they are doing. Rolly, who was sleeping the entire time, awakens and reveals that he used to be a pilot in World War II, making him proficient at flying an airplane. He is able to successfully land the plane in an airport in Charleston, South Carolina, leaving everyone alive and unscathed. As everyone exits the plane, Thelma asks Reverend Gregory if he meant what he said about his feelings for her; he admits that he does, and they kiss as Deacon Frye looks on. Commercials deleted.
