WALT DISNEY PRESENTS: DANIEL BOONE: ... AND CHASE THE BUFFALO (TV)

Summary

One in this series of family programs, presented under the umbrella title of "Walt Disney Presents," hosted by Walt Disney. This "Frontierland" episode continues the story of Daniel Boone, the second in a four-part series inspired by the real-life exploits of the 18th-century "trail blazer," and based on the book "Daniel Boone: Master of the Wilderness" by John Bakeless. Disney talks about the famed pioneer and reviews what happened in the previous week's debut show. This episode begins in 1773, after Rebecca has given birth to a second son, Israel, and a daughter, Jemima, with Daniel still dreaming of living in Kentucky. Rebecca takes Daniel to task for his wanderlust, reminding him how his travels prevented him from seeing any of his children being born. He says that their poverty is no disgrace, and is the fault of "thieving, mealy-mouthed" land agents. He promises Rebecca to stay out of trouble, then takes James for a long walk. Meanwhile, neighbors Samuel Watkins and Mordecai Tompkins tell Rebecca that Judge Henderson signed an order for Cecil Calvert to be hanged for having shot at a tax collector. The men want Daniel on their side, citing that Squire has joined the rebellion, led by Mordecai. In the woods, Daniel gives James the gun that belonged to his late friend John Findley, then tells James that he intends to move the family to Kentucky. Daniel begins to teach James the ways of the forest. Back at home, Squire tells Daniel that the militia is burning Sam's barn. At Sam's house, Daniel reads the governor's complaint, citing that Sam falsified crop reports to tax collectors. Daniel stops Mordecai from shooting at the troops. The next day, Judge Henderson tells the resolute Governor Tryon that Cecil shouldn't be hanged. Locals protest as Cecil is brought to the scaffold. Mordecai and Squire save Cecil, but Daniel intercedes when Modecai tries to hang a soldier. Mordecai insists on fighting Daniel, and Daniel ultimately prevails. Afterward, Daniel suggests that all the angry locals should move with him to Kentucky, then offers his farm for sale. That night, Rebecca tells Daniel that she won't leave and will live with the children at her parents. Bidding goodbye to his family, Daniel leads the large group of settlers to Kentucky. Later, Daniel is elated to see that Rebecca has had second thoughts and brought the family to join him. The program is followed by a preview for next week's show about animated credit sequences for motion pictures, "The Title Makers," along with the nature film "Nature's Half Acre." Includes commercials.
