TWILIGHT ZONE, THE: THE HITCH-HIKER (TV)

Summary

One in this science fiction/fantasy anthology series hosted by Rod Serling. In this episode, Nan Adams is pursued during her cross-country trip by an anonymous, silent hitchhiker whom she cannot escape. Her tire blows out on the highway, and on her way to the service station she notices a hitchhiker, a drab middle-aged man standing by the side of the road near her car. As Nan continues her trip, she begins to see him everywhere, always just a bit ahead of her. Her sense of vague disquiet grows into paralyzing terror as she realizes that others don't see him and that she cannot escape him. At one point she is almost killed when she senses him beckoning her across train tracks and her car stalls before an oncoming train. Desperate for companionship, Nan offers a ride to a sailor, but when she tries to run her car into the invisible hitchhiker, the sailor thinks she is unstable and leaves her. Finally, in a call home to her mother, she inadvertently learns the truth about her situation and the hitchhiker. Includes commercials and promos.
