GRACE UNDER FIRE: THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE PHARMACIST (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about Grace Kelly, a Southern woman in her thirties struggling to support her three children by herself after her divorce from an alcoholic, abusive husband. In this episode, Grace ponders what she wants in a man, and as Nadine helps her make a list, she again suggests that pharmacist Russell is perfect for her. Later, at work, Grace discovers that her paycheck is being withheld by the IRS because she and her ex-husband filed joint tax returns and he now owes money to the government. As Grace struggles to rectify the situation, Quentin reminds her that she promised to take him out for pizza, and she relents. When Russell calls, she ends up inviting him along, and they all dine together at the corny kids' restaurant, which Russell admits he hates. Grace tells him about her IRS woes, and he offers his assistance, suggesting that they go out to dinner to discuss it.

Wade, babysitting with Nadine, offers to help Grace as well if need be, and she heads out to dinner with Russell. He announces that he has finally signed his divorce papers and rails against his ex-wife, Barbara, but she then arrives unexpectedly at the restaurant and admits she cannot go through with it, and Russell ends up leaving with her. Nevertheless, he arrives at Grace's home the next day, still willing to help with her taxes, but he confesses that he slept with Barbara and Grace accuses him of being "desperate," reminding him of all the negative things that his ex did during their marriage. Russell counters that she is jealous, and she sends him away in annoyance. Grace later meets with the IRS agents, who demand several thousand dollars from her for Jimmy's debts, and she protests that she cannot afford it. Just then, Russell bursts in and orders them to issue Grace a refund, stating that they never sent her the appropriate notice and cannot legally demand the money. Though the agents call his bluff, Russell stands his ground and a grateful Grace offers to make him dinner. When they meet again at her house, she thanks him for his help and they discuss their elaborate fantasies about killing their exes, deciding they are better off as friends for now.
