BOY MEETS WORLD: STATE OF THE UNIONS {SIXTH SEASON FINALE} (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about teenager Cory Matthews, who balances his theories on life and friendship against those of his off-the-wall Philadelphia-based family. In this episode, Topanga tells Cory that a wedding venue has opened for July the 4th, and while he confesses his "anti-marriage" nightmares, Topanga seems confident about their impending nuptials, citing her own parents’ long-time marriage as inspiration. She then mentions that her mother and father are coming to town, which alarms Cory. Mr. Feeny then reveals that he and Dean Lila Bolander plan to get married that weekend, and Alan and Amy offer their home for the wedding. Cory presents his parents with strict rules for dealing with the Lawrences, believing that they already hate him for derailing Topanga’s plans for Yale, forbidding them from any embarrassing behavior. Elsewhere, Eric talks with Shawn and vents his feelings about losing Rachel to Jack. Shawn asks what really attracted him to Rachel, but he cannot come up with anything other than surface qualities and seems more upset about losing the "competition" with Jack, saying that Jack’s grief over the death of his (and Shawn’s) father made him more appealing to her. Shawn gives him advice about a soul-searching journey that he took after Chet’s death, and Eric considers. At the Matthews’, Jedediah and Rhiannon arrive and the parents appear to be getting along well, but Alan and Amy soon break Cory’s "rules" and Topanga’s parents begin to uncharacteristically argue. Topanga, however, tells her mother that she and Cory want to "live up to" their relationship. Eric interrupts Jack and Rachel’s romantic evening together and says that he is finally truly happy for them, having understood that he does not know Rachel very well and cared only about “winning” over Jack, which bothers her. Rhiannon confesses to Topanga that she and Jedediah have been having problems for many years, saying that “people change.” Topanga becomes upset, realizing that her parents’ marriage may be over, and Cory is rattled when Rhiannon admits that they married too young. At Feeny and Lila’s wedding, Shawn and Angela arrive as friends only, and Eric shares a sweet moment with Feeny and shares that he may do some traveling soon. As the ceremony gets underway, Cory observes Topanga’s heartbreak about her parents, and when the phone rings, he tells the owner of the wedding venue that they do not want to hold the July 4th date, as they are not yet ready. Includes commercials.
