I LOVE LUCY: RAGTIME BAND (TV)
Summary
One in this series of comedies about the escapades of Lucy Ricardo, a zany redheaded housewife with show business aspirations, her Cuban-born bandleader husband Ricky Ricardo, and their best friends and neighbors Fred and Ethel Mertz.
Lucy volunteers Ricky and his band to play at a fundraiser for the Westport Historical Society, but neglects to get his permission first. She tries to sweet-talk him into complying, but he refuses, since it would be too much trouble to get his band to Connecticut. He jokingly suggests that she start her own band. Lucy tries to call the Society to cancel Ricky's appearance, but changes her mind when they tell her that the ticket sales have spiked considerably. She decides to take Ricky's advice seriously and form a band consisting of herself on saxophone, Ethel on piano, Fred on violin, and Little Ricky on the drums.
She gathers the other band members together for practice, but all of them are hopelessly inept, with the exception of Little Ricky. Lucy, Ethel, and Fred all talk to Ricky in private, asking him to have a talk with the other two about their performance, all of them convinced that they are not at fault. Little Ricky, however, tells him the truth of the matter. Ricky oversees their next rehearsal and tries to gently inform them of their shortcomings. Ultimately he decides to try to play the fundraiser with a few of his band-mates. Lucy asks that she and the others be allowed to join to, and so Ricky puts them onstage in his "rhythm section," a non-vital capacity consisting of several odd percussion instruments.
