HOME IMPROVEMENT: LOVE'S LABOR LOST, PART 2 (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about the host of a cable television fix-it show and his wife and three sons. Tim discovers that Jill had an allergic reaction to the antibiotic and went into shock, but is fine and will recover. The doctor tells Tim that despite his earlier assurances, the complications forced him to completely remove Jill’s ovaries. Jill comes out of the operating room and Tim is on hand to greet her. Tim is uneasy as he tells Jill the news about her ovaries. Jill is unhappy about the situation, realizing that she will be going through early menopause, but Tim tries to comfort her. Al, Heidi, and Wilson visit Jill in the hospital to cheer her up, although Jill is secretly resentful of their presence. Soon Tim, Brad, and Mark take Jill back home. Her mother arrives to help her out around the house while she recovers. She advises Jill to take things easy, but she is determined to finish her thesis paper for her doctorate despite her condition. Tim reveals that he spoke to her advisor and managed to delay the due date on her thesis by a week. However, Jill is horrified that her advisor now has knowledge of her hysterectomy and is furious at Tim. She goes on a rant and retreats upstairs, livid with rage; Tim recognizes this as the first of her mood swings, one of the symptoms of the hysterectomy. Later Jill calms down and her mother brings her some bread pudding. However, her attitude swiftly changes and she snaps at Tim, and she appears to experience a hot flash. Tim suggests that she takes estrogen to help curb these symptoms, but she feels uncomfortable about taking it without researching it first. Tim talks to Lillian, who recounts her own experiences with menopause. Jill speaks with her as well, and Lillian notes that she seems to be blaming Tim for everything ever since she got out of the hospital. Jill voices her anger and frustration, noting that she feels “empty,” and has an emotional breakdown. Lillian understands, having experienced similar feelings herself during menopause. She gives Jill advice on how to cope with the changes her body is going through. That night, Tim returns to find Jill asleep on the couch. She apologizes for losing her temper at him. Tim reassures he still loves her and finds her attractive, and that her lack of ovaries will have no impact on that. Includes commercials.
