KING OF THE HILL: PROPANE BOOM {SECOND SEASON FINALE} (TV)

Summary

The second season finale in this animated comedy series about the daily activities of Hank Hill, his family, and their neighbors, who are nestled in the middle of America's heartland in the small town of Arlen, Texas. In this episode, Hank is frustrated by the lazy sales associates at Mega Lo Mart, and Luanne is upset to learn that she must pay $300 in overdue tuition or lose her place in beauty school. Hank then learns that Mega Lo Mart now sells propane as well, and though his boss encourages them to offer "service with a hug," they cannot compete with Mega Lo Mart's lower prices and the business suffers. Hank tries to make a "battle plan," refusing Luanne's request for money, and suggests to his boss that they need a famous spokesperson, as Mega Lo Mart has Chuck Mangione. Despite his attempts, Strickland Propane goes under and Hank is let go, and he rages against Mega Lo Mart, destroying everything he has purchased there. Peggy quickly rises to the occasion, having planned for such an occasion, and Hank attempts to find a new job, though encounters only dead ends and get-rich-quick schemes.

Later, Luanne studies to be a propane saleswoman at Mega Lo Mart to fund her beauty school plans, and Peggy takes a position as a notary. However, when Luanne arrives at Mega Lo Mart, expecting her boyfriend Buckley to hire her, she discovers that he has already hired Hank. Luanne is furious, and Hank is humiliated to be working for his former competitor, exasperated by his young and dimwitted co-workers, who know very little about handling propane. He then discovers that several other small-business owners are working alongside him too, having also been put out of work by Mega Lo Mart, and he decides to stage an "open rebellion" by interrupting an upcoming Chuck Mangione concert at the store. Luanne decides to break up with Buckley, and as Chuck takes the stage for some "soft rock," Hank and his friends noisily play their kazoos and unfurl a sign about Mega Lo Mart's destruction of small business. Hank suddenly realizes that one of the clueless employees has caused a propane leak, and the store explodes in a ball of fire, leaving Hank, Buckley and many others' fates unknown. Everyone panics, and Boomhauer calls 911, though has some trouble clearly communicating the problem. Commercials deleted.
