MOESHA: MOTHER'S DAY (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about Moesha Mitchell, a vivacious African-American teenager living in Los Angeles with her father, stepmother, and wisecracking younger brother.
In this episode, Moesha is frustrated when someone breaks into her school locker and steals her money, which she has been saving for Mother's Day. She dismisses Kim's suspicions that her locker neighbor Gabriella is the culprit. Elsewhere, Frank makes brunch plans to honor Dee's first Mother's Day with their family. Moesha, concerned that they will not have time for their annual visit to her mother's grave, tells her father about the theft, and he gives her $100 to share with Myles on gifts for Dee. Moesha heads out shopping with Kim, and they run into Gabriella, who seems to have a lot of money to spend. Still, Moesha again defends Gabriella's integrity.
Hakeem barges in at the crack of dawn with his own gift for Dee. Though Myles surprises her with a heartfelt framed photo and a sweet card – in which he calls her "Mom" – Moesha merely presents her stepmother with socks. Later, as the family prepares to depart for brunch, they find that Moesha has vanished; Frank soon finds her at the cemetery, emotionally telling her mother that she is not ready to consider someone else as her "mom," even though she likes Dee. She says that her sense of loss is still too great. Frank comforts her, assuring her that she is very similar to her kindhearted mother; when they join Dee and Myles at brunch, Dee offers Moesha some wise words about grief and love from the poet Kahlil Gibran. The R&B girl group Out of Eden then livens up the event by singing "Lovely Day." Commercials deleted.
