NEWSRADIO: ARCADE (TV)
Summary
One in this series of comedies about the employees of WNYX, an all-news radio station in New York City. Beth gets rid of the sandwich vending machine in the lobby, to the relief of all except Bill, who has an inexplicable preference for the machine's old, seemingly artificial sandwiches. Lisa becomes concerned that she's becoming less intelligent and Dave jokingly suggests she re-take her SATs. Dave discovers that Beth has replaced the sandwich machine with an old arcade game cabinet, "Stargate Defender." He demands that it be removed, begrudgingly admitting that he used to be addicted to the game when he was in high school, and growing quite proficient at it. Lisa takes Dave's joke literally and decides to re-take her SATs, convincing Dave to do the same. Mr. James soon finds himself hooked on Stargate Defender. Dave tries to resist the temptation to play it again, but gives in and spends all night playing. He is thus too exhausted to concentrate when Lisa takes him with her for their SAT exam. Bill goes into a sort of "withdrawal" from a lack of vending machine-sandwiches. Lisa receives the test results: her score is unchanged from high school, but Dave's is considerably lower. He admits he spent all night playing Stargate Defender and reveals that the same thing happened when he was in high school, which he feels is the reason he didn’t get into a better college. Joe takes advantage of Bill's craving to sell him some disgusting sandwiches he made. Dave is heartbroken to find that Beth has replaced the Stargate Defender machine with a fortune-telling machine. The episode ends as Dave visits an arcade to play Stargate Defender. Commercials deleted.
