NEWSRADIO: CATHERINE MOVES ON (TV)
Summary
One in this series of comedies about the employees of WNYX, an all-news radio station in New York City. Catherine calls a staff meeting together and announces that she's leaving WNYX. She says goodbye and then leaves. Everyone is surprised by this announcement. Mr. James arrives after the fact and asks Dave to explain what happened. Dave recounts the story, but in his retelling the other events are drowned out by the sound of Bill chewing his cereal, which he feels is far too loud. Lisa keeps trying to call Catherine, blaming herself for her departure. Joe believes Catherine left due to his constant sexual harassment of her, and reveals that he regularly records his conversations with her. Bill disputes Dave's recollection of Catherine's departure and gives his own account. In his version, Catherine is consumed with lust for him and makes out with him immediately after she quits. Mr. James finds his version hard to believe. Lisa believes Mr. James will fire her for Catherine's departure, while Beth tries to convince Joe that Catherine was attracted to him despite her many rebuffs. Matthew, unasked, offers his own account of events to Mr. James, but chooses to focus on the reason why he accidentally broke a coffee pot instead. He then segues into an account of a dream he had involving himself and Bill fishing on a river raft together. Mr. James calls in Lisa to find out what really happened, but in her version she is swamped with work and Catherine quits solely because she isn't paying enough attention to her. Beth reveals that after Catherine left, she and several others began stealing things off of her desk until it was cleaned out. Catherine returns, mad that her desk was cleaned out while she was away. Mr. James speaks to her in private to find out what really happened, exasperated by her co-workers' highly exaggerated and twisted versions of events. She explains that she received a job offer to be the London correspondent of a new satellite news network and has to leave at midnight for her new position. She tried to tell Dave, but he was distracted by Bill's chewing noises. While she agrees with Mr. James that her co-workers are "completely nuts," she admits she will miss them. They emerge to find that the things on Catherine's desk have been replaced. Joe brings her aside and admits his feelings for her one last time, and she asks him to meet her at her apartment for sex before she leaves. Later, Catherine goes out to dinner with some of her co-workers and they share a goodbye. Joe prepares for a romantic encounter at Catherine's apartment, but Bill steps through the door instead, finding Joe in the nude. Catherine leaves a mocking voicemail message for the both of them. Commercials deleted.
