WINNIE THE POOH THANKSGIVING, A / WINNIE THE POOH AND THE BLUSTERY DAY (TV)

Summary

In the first of two animated program on this asset, Winnie the Pooh and his friends in the Hundred Acre Wood celebrate Thanksgiving. The program begins with Pooh and Christopher Robin discussing Thanksgiving. Then, Pooh sings a song of thanks to his friends -- Piglet, Eeyore, Owl, Rabbit, Tigger, and Gopher -- as they gather for the meal. Upon arriving, Rabbit doesn't like the non-traditional offerings that he sees and tries to explain what Thanksgiving is about, discussing the habits and routines of the holiday. Rabbit instructs the others as to their responsibilities for the meal. Piglet is upset to hear that he and Pooh are to hunt down a turkey, while Pooh is unclear what the creature even is. Meanwhile, Owl cleans dishes while Gopher blasts some pumpkins for the pie. Later, Pooh comes up with a new strategy for turkey-trapping: He and Piglet dig a hole, then find they can't climb out of it. At the same time, Tigger and Eeyore struggle in their search for cranberries. Finally getting back to the surface, Pooh and Piglet set up a trap to capture a turkey, but instead, Tigger and Eeyore end up in the burlap sack. Meanwhile, Rabbit finishes the decorations. Yet, with five minutes until the meal, no one else has arrived. Then, Gopher shows up with the pumpkin pie and Owl with the china. Eventually, Pooh and Piglet return with their "turkey" and only then do they realize they have actually captured Tigger and Eeyore. Opening the sack, the chaos ruins the entire meal and now it has become a "Thanklessgiving." Everyone is gloomy and goes their own way. Finally, Pooh and his friends gather to share their original offerings and profess their thanks for each other as Christopher joins the celebration.

In the Academy Award-winning second animated special, originally released in theaters in 1968, Winnie the Pooh and his friends from the Hundred Acre Wood have an interesting "Winds-day." The program begins as Pooh sings of "A Rather Blustery Day" en route to his "Thoughtful Spot." There, Gopher pops out of the ground and tells him to "skedaddle" as it is Winds-day. Pooh goes to wish Piglet a happy Winds-day, but the wind begins blowing Piglet away and Pooh holds onto Piglet's unraveling scarf like a kite. Kanga and Roo look on in wonderment. Pooh and Piglet are blown through the wood, eventually ending up at Owl's treehouse. As Owl explains the cause of the wind, his house is blown over. Christopher Robin rushes to the scene and declares it "a pity." Eeyore decides to find Owl a new house. At night, Pooh hears "anxious" noises which end up being Tigger, who introduces himself by singing "The Wonderful Thing About Tiggers." Tigger is hungry but doesn't like Pooh's offer of honey. Then, Tigger tells Pooh about the honey-stealing Heffalumps and Woozles lurking in the wood. Scared, Pooh takes "drastic precautions" to protect his honey. When Pooh falls asleep, he has a musical nightmare, "Heffalumps and Woozles." By the time he awakens, Pooh's house is flooded as "The Rain Rain Rain Came Down Down Down." Meanwhile, Piglet's house experiences worse flooding and he is forced to send an emergency message in a bottle. Christopher Robin's house is in a safe area, so everyone gathers there except Eeyore, who continues to hunt for a house for Owl. Then, Roo discovers Piglet's message. Thus, Christopher Robin and everyone go to rescue Pooh and Piglet. Afterward, Christopher Robin mistakenly thinks that Pooh saved Piglet -- who ended up in Pooh's honey jar -- and throws a hero party for Pooh. Eeyore interrupts to say that he has found a new house for Owl. However, the "new" house is already Piglet's. Piglet keeps silent and generously gives it to Owl. Pooh offers to share his home with Piglet and soon they are both being feted at a dual hero party, singing "Hip Hip Pooh-Ray!" Includes commercials.
