HOMICIDE: LIFE ON THE STREET: WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE {PART 2 OF 2} (TV)
Summary
Continued from B:55030. One in this dramatic police series about a department of reflective homicide detectives in Baltimore, Maryland. In the second half of this two-part episode, Lewis is rushed to the hospital as the paramedics work to free an elderly civilian, Francine Bassett, trapped in her car as a result of the accident. Falsone angrily blames Johnson for the collision, though a deeply shaken Mike admits to Gee that he himself was driving. Lewis undergoes emergency surgery as Falsone updates Munch, Sheppard and the others, and when Ballard confides to Sheppard that she was forced to pay on her first date with Falsone, Gharty, still in the middle of his nasty divorce, complains that "all women are the same these days." Danvers wonders why Johnson fled in the first place, speculating that he may have staged the Scales crime scene, and he suggests that Errico could be held criminally liable for the car accident.
Joey's mother refuses to aid the police, though Knoll, now the sole bounty hunter on the case, soon arrives and sweet-talks her into assisting him. He explains that he has a long history with the troublesome Errico family and has turned the mother into his "built-in informant" by vilifying the police, suggesting that only he can bring her wayward son in safely. Learning that Joey has fled to Florida, Knoll offers to take Mike and Falsone along to Miami to collect him, though Gee "gratefully declines" and sends Mike and Bayliss instead under "traditional" orders from Danvers. Sheppard offers Gharty some wise words about his resentment towards Flora, and Gee learns that Charles Bassett is suing the city over the car accident and his wife Francine's injuries. In Florida, Mike and Bayliss decide to team up with Knoll anyway and keep Gee "in the dark," and Knoll defends the long history of bounty-hunting as a career.
With no leads on Errico's whereabouts, the unlikely team relaxes over a seafood meal, and when Mrs. Errico calls Knoll directly, Mike gets an idea and urges Knoll to give her money to send to Joey, thus creating a perfect opportunity to capture him. Back in Baltimore, Lewis awakens and is in good spirits until he learns of Francine's death, aware that Mike will be greatly upset by the news, and Mike, Bayliss and Knoll soon capture Errico when he goes to retrieve the wire transfer. Errico argues that neither Eddie's nor Francine's deaths were his fault, but he is sent to prison all the same for manslaughter as well as for jumping bail and for his original drug-dealing charge. Johnson goes unpunished, though loses his bounty-hunting career, and Gee tries to reassure Mike about Francine's accidental death. The detectives are surprised when Knoll collects the bounty onto Errico and then cheerily splits the take with them, noting that they brought the criminal in together, and though Lewis tries to make amends with Mr. Bassett, the grieving widower declares that someone must pay for her death. Gharty takes Sheppard's words to heart and rethinks his views on Flora, and a guilt-ridden Mike attempts to do the right thing with his cut of the money. Commercials deleted.
