MARRIED . . . WITH CHILDREN: THE JOKE'S ON AL {TENTH SEASON FINALE} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of comedy programs about the ever-dysfunctional Bundy family.

Al calls a meeting of NO MA'AM, where the members plan a practical joke on Griff to commemorate his first year in the club. Dan had Griff arrested under charges of cannibalism so that they could plan the joke without his interference. Al and Jefferson soon get into an argument over who is the better practical joker and challenge each other to a prank "duel" to determine who is better. Al begins by sending ten pizzas to Jefferson's house, but Jefferson retaliates by briefly fooling Al into thinking he won ten million dollars in a sweepstakes. Dan forgets to release Griff from jail, and the media dubs him the "Chicago Cannibal." He tries to call Al for help, but Kelly erases his message from their new answering machine.

Al puts superglue on Jefferson's toilet seat, and the prank seems to work. Al returns home the next day to find an unknown woman in his kitchen making him dinner, confusing him. She says her name is June Morgan and claims to be an old friend of Peg's who stopped by to keep Al company. Al allows her to spend the night; Kelly and Bud protest but he believes this is another of Jefferson's pranks and will go along with it for the time being. He plans to have Bud and Kelly video-tape June's attempts to seduce him so that he can turn the tables on her and expose Jefferson's prank. Unbeknownst to Al, Peg leaves a message on the answering machine warning him about June, explaining that she is an old rival who plans to steal Al away.

June attempts to seduce Al, who goes along with it wholeheartedly. However, he realizes he can't go through with it and proposes marriage to her in the hopes that it will scare her off. His plan backfires when she says yes. Meanwhile, Griff is tried and sentenced to death. A wedding is prepared in the Bundy home; Al and his friends still believe the whole thing is a practical joke orchestrated by Jefferson. Jefferson visits, apparently unaware of the situation. The ceremony begins and June surprises Al by saying "I do." Al pleads with Jefferson to reveal the prank, but Jefferson merely opens the door just in time for Peg to return with her father. She punches out June and, as punishment, has Al renew their vows under threat of being shot by her father. She tricks Al into saying "I do." The episode ends with Griff sitting on the electric chair.
