NANNY, THE: STOCK TIP (TV)
Summary
One in this clash-of-cultures comedy series about Fran Fine, a flamboyant, wisecracking Jewish woman from Queens employed as a nanny by the upper-crust widower Maxwell Sheffield of Park Avenue. In this episode, C.C. begs Maxwell to consider investing in a vacation home on Martha's Vineyard, though Maxwell ponders other financial options. Fran takes Grace grocery shopping, advising her on how to use the market as a "meet market," and her expertise pays off when she meets the handsome and single Glen Mitchell, who works on Wall Street. Back at home, Fran boasts that she is headed to the Hamptons with Glen, though she is taken aback when Maxwell and her new beau hit it off and decide to go into business together. Brighton experiences something of an identity crisis when he realizes that he dresses like a certain breakfast cereal mascot, and when Fran takes him shopping for a new look, she is stunned to run into Glen at his "Wall Street" job – as a hot-dog vendor.
Fran panics as she realizes that Maxwell intends to give his "stockbroker" pal a large check, and when Niles refuses to do her dirty work for her, she is forced to kiss up to C.C. and beg her, as Maxwell's financial manager, to cancel the deal. C.C., however, is delighted at Fran's mistake, so Fran dons a disguise and goes undercover at Maxwell's highbrow men's club. "Wilbur" introduces "himself" to the two new friends and eavesdrops as Glen questions Maxwell about his attractive nanny and Maxwell brags that he can easily manipulate her with compliments. When Maxwell tries to hand over the check, "Wilbur" intervenes and ends up in a slap fight with Glen, but she manages to reveal herself just in time and tell Maxwell the truth about the con, much to the confusion of the other club members. Back at home, Brighton maintains his "cool" new persona as Fran makes it clear to Maxwell that despite his boasts, she clearly has the upper hand in the relationship. Commercials deleted.
