DREW CAREY SHOW, THE: STRANGE BEDFELLOWS (TV)
Summary
One in this series of comedies starring stand-up comedian Drew Carey as a single guy who attempts to juggle his romantic endeavors and his menial job at a Cleveland department store, while still maintaining his sense of humor. Kate and Oswald start a relationship with each other in secret. A realtor named Nicki Fifer visits Drew to tell him that his new neighbors will be putting in all manner of renovations and his yard will need to be appropriated by the construction workers for their equipment. Drew capitulates to her offer quite easily, a fact pointed out by Kate, Oswald, and Lewis. Drew, fed up with being seen as "spineless," decides to stand up for himself more often. At work, he taps into a feed of an international videoconference he's involved in and uses it to watch the executives' reaction to him, only to find that Mrs. Louder makes fun of him once he's left. He also discovers that Larry and Mrs. Louder are having an affair as a ploy by Larry to get Nigel's position, a revelation which shocks Drew. Mimi eavesdrops and learns of the whole thing. Drew starts to grow suspicious of Kate and Oswald's behavior, but before he can deduce anything further Larry arrives and announces that he's been fired; Mimi influenced Nigel to do so. Larry's wife arrives as well, telling him that she's leaving him and kicking him out of the house. Mrs. Louder apologizes to Larry and gives Drew Larry's old position on the executive board, revealing that he was next in line for consideration. Drew is happy at getting the job despite the underhanded method in which it was obtained. Later, he sees Nicki and tries to convince her to move the construction equipment off his yard, but she refuses. He also asks her out to dinner, but she politely declines. Larry comes over to Drew's house as he has nowhere else to stay and Drew allows him to do so. Mrs. Louder shows up at Drew's house in the middle of the night, somewhat inebriated. She gives Larry money to keep quiet about the affair and tells him that Drew intentionally got Larry fired to take his old position. Drew insists otherwise but Larry believes that Drew isn't "cutthroat" enough for the position and the guilt will torment him into resignation. The next day, Mrs. Louder asks Drew to frame Mimi for theft as a pretext for firing her. Drew refuses and resigns, but Mimi tries to get Drew in trouble so he frames her anyway. Includes commercials.
