ROSEANNE: HALLOWEEN IV (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about Roseanne and Dan Conner, a working-class couple who live in Lanford, Illinois, and their three kids, D.J., Darlene, and Becky.
In this episode, Roseanne is disappointed when Becky is forced to work through Halloween. Jackie tries to enlist Darlene to help get Roseanne "back into the spirit" of the holiday with gruesome pranks. Roseanne is unmoved, however, feeling that her former enjoyment of Halloween was "childish"; she opts not to attend the costume party at the lodge. Left home alone, Roseanne falls asleep on the couch and is visited by "the Ghost of Halloween Past," who announces that it will take her back to "where it all began" to restore her love of the holiday. Roseanne observes her infant self playing her first-ever prank on Bev. She fondly recalls tricking young Jackie out of her candy and, at a dance in her teen years, meeting Dan and bonding over their love of mischief.
The Ghost of Halloween Present arrives next and takes her to the lodge, where all of Roseanne's costumed friends and family agree that they miss her presence – though note that she can also be quite a handful. Finally, the Ghost of Halloween Future takes her ahead in time and shows that she has changed entirely and become a dutiful, saintly housewife, abandoning her pranks and obsessing over making life perfect for her family. Dan, bored with this new Roseanne, leaves her. She is horrified to find that she will eventually go on to live with Jackie forever and officially "become" Bev. Roseanne awakens from the dream and, realizing that there is "still time," dons her costume and hurries to the party – where she immediately gets her revenge on her gossipy friends for their comments. Commercials deleted.
