PERRY COMO'S CHRISTMAS IN NEW YORK (TV)

Summary

A special hosted by Perry Como featuring holiday songs and music. The program opens with Como and guests Michele Lee, Sarah Litzinger, singing a medley featuring “Happy Holidays,” “New York, New York,” “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” and “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town” in various Manhattan locales. Next, Como overlooks Central Park as he discusses his recent travels before accompanying himself on the piano for “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” Como exits his hotel and meets with Lee on the street, joining her for a hansom cab ride around Central Park as they sing “The Best of Times.” Next, Como goes to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and looks at the “Annual Christmas Tree and Neapolitan Baroque Creche” before singing “Christ is Born.” Later, Como goes toy shopping with Litzinger before they sing “Talk to the Animals.” After he gives her a present, he croons “The Greatest Gift of All.” Next, the United Nations International School Fifth Grade Chorus sings “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.” Then, Lee interacts in a skit with the Peppercorn Players puppets before singing “We Need a Little Christmas.” Next, from Studio 54, where Como once performed when it was a TV studio, Como sings “Catch a Falling Star.” He shows clips of him singing the same song there in the 1950s. Then, Como sings “White Christmas.” Later, Como and Lee go grocery shopping at Balducci’s in order to make a Christmas dinner, running into Mayor Ed Koch in the store. Later, Como and others watch some carolers sing “Christmas Bells Are Ringing” and “O Bambino Mio Divino” before inviting them in for dinner at the Balducci’s Long Island home. During dinner, Como and the others sing “I Wish It Could Be Christmas Forever.” Afterward, Como heads to St. Patrick’s Cathedral where he joins the Cathedral Choir for “Ave Maria.” Commercials deleted.
