LOVE BOAT, THE: HAPPILY EVER AFTER / HAVE I GOT A JOB FOR YOU / MR. SMITH GOES TO MINIKULU {SERIES FINALE} (TV)

Summary

The final episode in this comedy series about the lives and romances of the passengers and crew aboard a luxury cruise ship, the Pacific Princess. In "Happily Ever After," Emily arrives and introduces Monica, her wedding coordinator. Monica outlines her various ideas and asks Stubing to choose a location for the ceremony, but he seems distracted and puts off the decision. When he claims to be too busy to plan the event, Monica and Emily begin making decisions without him. Stubing struggles to give a proper toast at dinner and then hurries to Bricker, thinking he is having a heart attack, but Bricker assures him that it is merely anxiety over the upcoming wedding. Emily appeals to Vicki and Vicki explains that her father can handle stress unless he is "thrown a curve," and Monica suspects that he is getting cold feet. Emily seeks out Stubing and he nervously confesses his deepest secrets to her, but she is already aware of everything and reassures him that she too is nervous, but is confident in their future together and glad to be marrying him. Judy and Nicki help Emily to prepare, and Stubing's friends present him with diamond cufflinks as a present. The wedding goes off without a hitch, and Vicki catches the marital bouquet.

In "Mr. Smith Goes to Minikulu," Gopher receives a video message from a former guest, hotel manager Mr. Slade Collins, who reveals that he is opening a resort on the island of Minikulu and wants Gopher to run it. He is intrigued by the offer and wants Isaac to come along, and though Bricker expresses his doubts about the position, Gopher accepts and prepares to leave. Stubing questions him about making such a big decision so suddenly, but Gopher remains confident until Isaac reveals that he will be staying with the Pacific Princess and not accompanying him to Minikulu. Gopher then goes back and forth several times, unsure, and Collins himself arrives to talk him into it. When Gopher makes errors in his routine duties, he worries that the new job is over his head, but Isaac encourages him, stating that he knows that his friend is brave and capable. Gopher finally decides for good to take the job and attends his farewell party, giving a heartfelt speech of gratitude to his friends, particularly Isaac. The Love Boat Mermaids then perform a special rendition of "Bye Bye Baby" for him. In "Have I Got a Job For You," upon learning that Gopher is leaving his post, Ace frets over working with a new purser, filling out a complex application and struggling to prove himself. When Gopher hems and haws over the decision, Ace panics and thinks that Gopher is "Gaslighting" him and trying to test his mettle, but in the end realizes that he can handle the job after all and bids Gopher goodbye. Includes commercials.
