TONIGHT SHOW STARRING JOHNNY CARSON, THE {KATE CAPSHAW; ROSEANNE BARR; WOODY HARRELSON} (TV)
Summary
One in this series of late-night talk/variety programs hosted by Johnny Carson. Carson's guests for this program are actress Kate Capshaw, comedian Roseanne Barr and actor Woody Harrelson.
In his opening monologue, Carson touches on the following topics, among others: a recent discovery suggesting that human life was present in the Americas 32,000 years ago; the selection of new Supreme Court Justice William Rehnquist; "Miami Vice" star Don Johnson's new salary demands; pop star Michael Jackson's infamous "menagerie"; and the closing of all Playboy clubs.
Carson then suggests that well-dressed bandleader Doc Severinsen should "replace" Johnson if his salary woes are not settled, and the two read out part of a "Miami Vice" script together, with Carson taking the role of Tubbs, though Severinsen refuses to shave his trademark mustache for the part.
The first guest, Capshaw, bumped from the previous week's show, then takes the stage and shares some personal photographs, including scenes from "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" (1984) alongside director (and future husband) Steven Spielberg; and discusses her new film "SpaceCamp" (1986) and the challenges of simulating weightlessness. The interview is also interrupted by a feathered visitor, much to Capshaw's amusement.
Next, Barr takes the stage and performs a stand-up routine about Los Angeles' disdain for overweight people; her previous residence in a trailer; the stressful experience of taking road trips with children; why men are "better" at reading maps; and how men often grow to resemble their fathers. She also briefly chats with Carson about her upcoming tour with musician Julio Iglesias.
Finally, Harrelson takes the stage and discusses his newfound fame from "Cheers"; being recognized in Greece; his bicycling habits; his first visit to Paris; his dating life, including his possible relationship with actress Carol Kane; and his upcoming play "Curse of the Starving Class." Includes commercials and promos.
