WHAT'S MY LINE? {MYSTERY GUEST SEGMENTS} (TV)
Summary
One in this series of panel game shows in which celebrity panelists engage in witty banter as they try to guess the unusual occupations of the guests. This program contains a series of "mystery guest" segments from different episodes, in which the panelists don blindfolds and attempt to guess the identity of a famous guest. In the first segment, hosted by John Daly and featuring publisher Bennett Cerf, journalist Dorothy Kilgallen, actress Arlene Francis and actor John Payne as panelists, the guest is Ed Sullivan, who confuses the panelists with his misleading answers and then sends the audience into a fit of laughter by putting on a Neanderthal mask. Francis finally gets the correct answer.
In the second segment, hosted by Daly and featuring Cerf, Francis, comedian Steve Allen and actress Jayne Meadows as panelists, the guest is Jack Benny, who is amused at being asked if he is considered "glamorous" and then surprises Meadows with a kiss on the cheek. Cerf eventually guesses correctly.
In the third segment, hosted by Daly and featuring Cerf, Francis, Kilgallen and actor Ben Gazzara as panelists, the guest is Garry Moore, within whom Francis recently attended an event, prompting her to guess correctly.
In the fourth segment, hosted by Clifton Fadiman and featuring Francis, Kilgallen, Cerf and actor Cesar Romero as panelists, the guest is Bob Hope, and despite extensive questioning and some personal friendships with Hope, no one guesses correctly.
In the fifth segment, hosted by Daly and featuring Francis, Kilgallen, actor and director Martin Gabel and actor Keenan Wynn as panelists, the guest is Milton Berle, and Daly is tickled at the panelists' questions about whether the guest is a "legitimate singer" or not. Eventually, Wynn guesses correctly.
In the final segment, hosted by Daly and featuring Cerf, Kilgallen, Gabel and actress Hedy Lamarr as panelists, the guest is Pat Boone. Despite his statements that he is known for his music and has definitely never appeared in "Porgy and Bess," the panelists fail to guess his identity. Commercials deleted.
