ORIGINAL MAX TALKING HEADROOM SHOW, THE {JERRY HALL; MARY TYLER MOORE} (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy interview series featuring the wise-cracking, computer-generated character Max Headroom.

In this installment, Max delivers his opening monologue and notes that the studio audience will applaud any guest, no matter how dubious their character. After the theme song, Texan supermodel Jerry Hall takes the stage and chats about her upcoming film, "Earth Girls Are Easy," and then explains that she is celebrating her ten-year anniversary with Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger, showing off a diamond necklace that he gave her. The program cuts to Max's next guest, Mary Tyler Moore, who observes the similarities between Max and Ted Baxter, her obnoxious colleague on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," played by Ted Knight. He asks if there will be a reunion show and they agree that it would be a bad idea; she then describes an average day in her life.

Next, Max welcomes "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" host Robin Leach, first showing off Leach's glamorous Connecticut home. He asks Leach teasing questions about his wealth and the most outrageous celebrities he has met, wondering how far he would go to interview a huge star. For "Storytime," Max provides a somewhat warped history of the founding of America, discussing the various characters aboard the Mayflower and their settling of the country. The final guest is musician Paul Shaffer, aka David Letterman's bandleader, and Shaffer discusses his recent work, including production of Darlene Love's solo album and his own musical preferences. Max quizzes him on songs with city names as titles, and then asks for a quick music lesson. Shaffer sits at the piano and plays "A Hundred Pounds of Clay," though Max proves to be a questionable student. Commercials deleted.
