NEIL DIAMOND: UNDER A TENNESSEE MOON (TV)
Summary
This televised concert, recorded at the Nyman Auditorium in Nashville, features the music of Neil Diamond, with special guests Chet Atkins, Waylon Jennings and others. Diamond takes the stage and performs "Tennessee Moon," then discussing his writing of the song with Dennis Morgan and his lifelong love of cowboy culture and inspiration from artists such as the Everly Brothers and Chet Atkins. Producer Bob Gaudio comments on Diamond's new album, including its various collaborative efforts. Diamond performs "Can Anybody Hear Me," and then talks about his friendship with Waylon Jennings, commenting on his devotion to his wife, Jessi Colter, and they perform "One Good Love." Next is "A Matter of Love," followed by "Marry Me," after which Diamond talks about his desire to write a "pure" wedding song. Atkins joins him onstage for "Blue Highway," co-written by Harlan Howard, after which Diamond sings "Talking Optimist Blues (Gonna Have a Good Day)". Next, he discusses writing music with his son Jesse, then performing "Everybody."
Diamond displays his "good-luck rhythm guitar," which he is seen playing on a 1966 episode of "American Bandstand," and he performs the Everly Brothers-inspired song "No Limit," followed by "First You Have To Say You Love Me," then explaining his songwriting methods, preferring to establish the music first and lyrics second. He next performs "Gold Don't Rust" and closes with "Kentucky Woman," featuring guest musician Tim McGraw, who comments that fans of all music genres can like and appreciate Diamond's wide body of work. Includes commercials and promos.
